President Obama has asked the U.S. EPA to withdraw its final rule for revising the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for ozone, a surprise move that represents a victory for industry groups and Republican lawmakers after their intense campaign to stall EPA's release of the revised standard. The chemical industry has repeatedly identified the ozone NAAQS revision as one of its top concerns, in part due to the increased regulatory burden it would impose on hydraulic fracturing operations. ACC says an increased ozone standard would make those projects subject to costly and prolonged permit approval requirements....http://www.chemweek.com/envirotech/regulatory/legal/Obama-Yields-on-Ozone-NAAQS-as-Economy-Stagnates_37566.html September 2, 2011
