Dow Chemical said Thursday in a state regulatory filing that it will begin starting up its 750,000–metric ton/year propane dehydrogenation unit (PDH) in Freeport, Texas. There was no estimate for when the start-up would be complete, but the filing made through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says flaring associated with the start-up is expected to last through 22 September....

Oxea (Dallas) has announced price increases for a range of C3, C4, and C5 oxo intermediates and derivatives in the Americas. Effective 1 October, the price of n-propyl acetate, n-propanol, n- and i-butanol, and n- and i-butyl acetate will increase by $0.03/lb in North America, and by $66/metric ton in South America. Throughout the Americas, the price of neopentyl glycol will increase by $0.03/lb or $70/metric ton, and the price of  trimethylolpropane will increase by $0.05/lb or $110/metric ton....

US benzene imports fell for the second consecutive month in July, according to data collected by IHS Markit, and net imports reached the lowest level of 2016. Benzene loadings from South Korea have been in decline for much of the year, while low prices in May and June pushed shipments to other regions. Since the end of the first quarter, monthly benzene imports have averaged about 140,000 metric tons, whereas the market needs net imports of about 150,000 metric tons per month to balance....
